Day 10 – Webster NY to Porter NY

Knowing it would get up to 92 degrees today, we woke up at 5:30, packed up camp from the Webster fire station, and pedaled off.

The roads were incredibly quiet, and we were pretty much he only ones out on the scenic highway by Lake Ontario! We were on that one road (4 lane divided highway) for hours, but we would often go about 15 minutes between seeing cars.

Aidan says it felt like the zombie apocalypse had come. But it was a great ride, because we could see the water from many parts of the road.

Road signs are a frequent source of entertainment for us.

At about 11:30, it was getting pretty hot, so we pulled into a state park (which kind of popped up from nowhere) and settled in for the afternoon.

I took the opportunity to get Waldorfy, and I pulled out the sewing kit and my Kroka patch. The time had finally come to embellish my panniers!

I’m so excited to show off my Kroka patch the rest of the way across the country!

We jumped in the lake later in the afternoon, then feeling refreshed, hopped back on our bikes. We were starting the afternoon ride with almost 50 miles already done, which felt great. With multiple snack breaks and a dinner break, we passed the 80 mile marker for the day, and started looking for a campsite. We stopped at a friendly-looking greenhouse, and talked to the woman there, Wendy, who is letting us camp in her yard!

Your Kroka patch looks great! And how novel, to camp with permission! 🙂 I hope you get to swing on that tire before you go to sleep.
    xoxo Happy travels!
