Day 7 – Lassellsville NY to Brewerton NY

We woke up early, and were on the road before 7:00. Since it was going to be a log day, we had the goal of making it about 40 miles before lunch time, and the weather was perfect.

These guys were hanging out at the gas station where we filled water bottles this morning, and their chatter was so entertaining that we could have stayed right there all day. But we had places to go, so it was back on the bikes, back to pedaling.

It was really a perfect day to ride. The fields opened up on either side of us, and the views were incredible as we climbed gradually up in the morning. We must have climbed for awhile – probably about 4 miles.

As exciting as that sign was, it still couldn’t compare with the landscape from over the top of the hill.

Lunchtime is becoming more and more interesting as we realize just how hungry we are. Gas station food is looking better and better each day.

I should definitely get a photo of Aidan’s snacking set up. As we bike along, he periodically reaches back to the side pocket of his left pannier to the open bag of potato chips. There’s probably a little trail of chip crumbs that you could follow to find us each day.
We came across a pretty cool road today!

And when there’s a road sign with your name on it, climbing it is a must.

…low bridge, everybody down…

…you’ll always know your neighbors and you’ll always know your pals…

We actually travelled for almost exactly 15 miles on the Erie Canal bike path, and that song (Springsteen version of course) was on repeat in my head the whole time.  It was a beautiful little path, and a nice break from traffic.

At the end of our ride, we made it to Aidan’s aunt and uncle’s house! Thank you Aunt Mar and Uncle Gary for hosting us!! It’s so wonderful to refuel mentally and physically with you by the lake.

It was amazing!! Always good to have real food instead of gas station food. 🙂
